Down the street there was an estate sale...I hit it about noon on the first day and picked up some goodies. . I noticed this chair at the sale. It was priced over $100 and I thought to myself "I'll keep an eye on it and see if they lower the price" I wanted a chair for our upstairs landing that I could kind of "funk" up and this seemed to fit the bill. I returned to the sale later that afternoon to look at the chair again...it came with leftover upholstery fabric. The cushion of the chair was shot. It was still too much money. I will return tomorrow a.m.
The next day dawns and I am at the sale when it opens. The chair is still there and now it is priced at $75. Better price, but I want it cheaper. I am willing to hold out. The day drags by and I think of nothing but the chair. I really want it. About 2 o'clock I convince my daughter to go down with me and get her opinion. We pull up to the house...the chair is still there (big sign of relief!) It is still priced at $75, but I am going to bargain. (I hate to bargain) I find the man who is running the sale. I tell him I will give him $50 for the chair. He says that it is a very fine chair that his parents had in their living room and was well taken care of. I agree, but tell him that I will have to have the seat reupholstered since it is in bad shape. He goes in the house to check with his sisters. The clock ticks by...he comes out and tells me he will take $55. SOLD! Into my car it goes and down the street to it's new home. It fits perfectly up on the landing. I spend some time finding fabric for the chair, since I want to "funk" it up. Take the fabric into the upholsterer and eventually end up with what I wanted. If makes me happy every time I look at it. A happy, happy chair!!!! (FYI, the original scrap fabric that came with the chair is now the bottom of the cushion)
Laurie! I loved hearing the story of your chair, and I must say that the new cover looks absolutely gorgeous! [great job bargaining!] Your blog is sooo cute, and it's always fun to hear your great craft ideas. Good luck with blogging!
