We have lived in our current late 1940S Tudor for over 11 years. We have updated the kitchen here and there, but I was finally ready to ditch the countertops and backsplash. I like the cabinets as they are original to the house...but the countertop, backsplash, sink and faucet had to go. The countertop was blue Formica and the backspash was 4x4 matching blue tiles. We had installed a blue pergo floor years ago which I still liked and we decided to keep.
BEFORE PHOTO....
THIS IS THE KITCHEN AFTERWARDS! We did a marble countertop and subway tile backsplash. Also a new sink, faucet and dishwasher. I wasn't originally going to paint the lower cabinets but after getting the marble and backsplash up, I realized how shabby the lower cabinets looked and that is what so MUCH WHITE! I needed some color! I have alot of vintage green tin sprinkled around the kitchen so I used that as my inspiration color. The green is called "Sea Glass Green" by Martha Stewart. I really LOVE how it turned out.
I also decided to strip floral wallpaper out of the nook to lighten that up. I painted it a pale blue to complement the blue floors. I have also included pictures of my much loved reconditioned O'Keeffe and Merritt vintage stove. Next to the stove (with the galvanized top) is a cabinet that my Dad and husband built to house my microwave. Not alot of countertop space in this kitchen! The bottom row of photos is of the nook. The great built-in is part of that space. My next purchase will be a cool vintage style frig. I really love the SMEG fridges, but not sure if they are large enough. Anyhow, just wanted to share my latest project...am so happy with the results!
Love, love, love your kitchen!!! It is perfection...I can't wait to show my readers!!

I followed the link from Linda's blog and found your sweet kitchen re-do. I've also spent almost all evening looking at the Schoolhouse Electric Co website and am totally inspired by your light. I think we are going to order one for our kitchen.

Your kitchen looks SO great!! I wish we could redo ours. Our house was built in 1940, and I haven't ever seen another house with the stove set up in the corner the way ours is. Until I saw your pictures!! I sure am liking that cabinet with the microwave inside! We need that! I'm going to have to try and get a picture of the way ours is, and send it to you. We actually have the microwave adjacent to the stove in the same position, but ours sits on top of a rolling metal cabinet that is not attractive. It is useful, though ( lots of storage inside), but I would rather have a counter top like you do that is the same height as the stove top. We don't have a vintage stove, either. I love yours! And I have a large collection green kitchen ware, too, so I am also admiring your cabinet color, and your arrangement of the enamelware plates and curtain tiebacks. Wonderful.
