I hit two estate sales yesterday and they were quite, quite dismal. I bought absolutely NOTHING. Saturday, however was the 25th annual neighborhood garage sale for the area I live in. 135 houses participated this year and while there is an amazing amount of kids toys and clothes for sale, I did manage to find some vintage goodies.
I got two very tattered black umbrellas. They have great handles and will be coming out as part of a Halloween display. My friend Mitzi did a display with old umbrella frames in her booth at Stars antique mall and it was really fun...
The metal basket/cart was my best find. The basket is removable and the cart folds up for storage.
You can't have an estate sale Friday without Christmas goodies.
Vintage playing cards and an old shoe wall pocket.
A stack of numbers and an old Easter tin.
Some old children's books including these...
Just in time for the Fourth of July.
A bingo set with great bingo cards.
Not too bad for a couple of hours of garage saling. I even managed to come home by 11 and drag some items out of my garage to sell (which I did). Twas a good day...found some treasures and my garage has more room now!
I love that wire basket cart! It's a great find... I can think of lots of things to do with it!
Oh! Hop on over to my blog and get a sneak peak at your "mystery gift"! Really, it's ready to send-- except that there's room for more goodies in the box! As soon as finish filling that box, I'll be sending it off to you!
Hugs,
Jill

Next time you have a neighborhood garage sale, take your adorable little metal buggy and go door to door! Great finds!

The basket and childrens books are the best! Since you came home empty-handed from the two estate sales, so glad you were able to get double for your trouble!

Your neighbors have some great old stuff. My neighbors have lots of baby clothes and old ski boots. :-/
Once again, in true M. Ethel-style, you have found some amazing things! Loving that little Dutch shoe.

You did so much better at the neighborhood garage sales than I did! The neighborhood that I went to was pretty new, with a metric ton of toys and baby stuff. I only bought a bottle of perfume, after going to about 25 houses!
I love that little patriotic book and that cart is an awesome find!

That basket/cart thing is so great. I can think of so many things you could do with that!

The basket looks very similar to the one my next-door neighbor growing up used for her laundry basket to hang clothes. It was so great because she didn't have to keep bending over. There have been many times I wished I had that basket for hanging my clothes. Hmmm. She still lives next door to my parents. Maybe I should see if she still has it....

Uh oh, is this the birth of your ginormous annual garage sale? It's so interesting to see things evolve.
