I bought a new/old table last fall at a local consignment shop. It replaced one that was about 15 years old and had seen better days. The table fit our old house, but was always a bit large for the current dining room.
I bought this. The size is perfect and I loved the detail on the table, but I did not like the veneer wood top or the fact that there was so much brown wood going on in this space.
Leg detail that I like.
Before the holidays I decided to paint it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I liked that I could just paint it without prepping with this paint and the fact it would paint over any surface.
I chose Paris Grey and went to work. It took me awhile to get it right as you paint and wax and sand.
I really like the color choice and I enhanced the leg detail with a second paint color, Duck Egg Blue. I used both a clear wax and then a darker wax to give it a deeper older look.
I loved it once it was painted. Then the snowball effect started. I did not like the current chairs with it. I had an old set of estate sale found metal chairs in my parents attic, so I brought those over.
before.
After. I went with a safe fabric, but I think I will choose something funkier once I make one more purchase.
The final snowball of the snowball effect has yet to be found. I have four metal chairs, but I left one of the old wood ones as I really want to replace it with a settee or love-seat pulled up to the table. We don't use this table a ton, so I am not concerned with daily use. I also don't have little kids anymore, so the kid factor isn't huge. I have been on the hunt for a new or vintage one, but that snowball has not materialized.
I want one that is a higher back and tufted.
This one is only shipped to Canada. I live in Oregon.
I also really like the look of this vintage one (no pillows tho).
I sure hope to finish up this project soon and get that last snowball in place. Then I can get onto the next project.
Love the makeover!! It gives it a completely different look. Renee has shared her love for this paint and I've always been intrigued. I hope your find your "dream" settee or love-seat.

Love the blue on gray! You are a pro at painting! Had a visit from a magpie yesterday, hope you have a great time at the flea.

Boy, do I know that feeling - one project done and looking so good that whatever's next to it just begs for a re-do, too. Painting a bedroom this weekend, but who knows where that will lead?

I'd like to hear more about your experience with the Chalk paint. I've read about it on other blogs but the authors are always people who paint furniture very often to sell, and I wonder how easy it is for the 'layperson' who doesn't paint furniture much.
Also, have you looked at World Market for a settee? They have one that I LOVE called the Erin Cute as a Button Loveseat that is tufted with multicolored buttons. I wish I had an excuse to buy it!

It turned out beautiful. Yes, much better with the contract of the lighter color and I like the way it picks up the colors in the rug, too.
You and Amy and the "wax on, wax off" are making me feel like a slacker!

I love it. I have been wanting to try to chalk paint. I love the colors you have chosen. I have seen many pieces that have been painting with it and all are so nice. I also love the rung you are using.

It turned out great! I just did my first chalk paint project also, my bedroom dresser. But I made my own with Martha Stewart paint and plaster of paris from Michaels. It turned out great. And I just bought a dining room table and chairs today to chalk paint. I was going to try gray and cream but I am really liking your gray and blue combo! It will look awesome with a settee!
