Today's challenge could not be more timely when Marina suggested it last week. I don't have a huge collection of masks, but I have an interesting assortment of them, plus costume items.
A pair of old masks.
A pair of old cloth masks from the 1950s.
I love this old Halloween wig in the original box.
Great graphics. This is the pirate wig.
There were also other styles available... witch, bobbed, dutch girl, old lady, flowing, minister man, colonial girl and pirate.
This old pajama plastic bag came full of some craft supplies. I could not bear to throw it away. Curious what the pajamas looked like and that mask that came with them!
I love these old rubber clown masks that have hardened into these crazy clown sneers.
Old masquerade masks. I like the patterns on those on the lower right.
I always have a soft spot for a Rubik's cube costume. My son Ben was a master of the Rubik's cube in elementary school. He carried one around with him and solved it over and over. I could not pass this gem by.
I found this costume a few years after Ben was a Rubik's cube for Halloween. Here he is in elementary school.
And last but not least I really love the graphics and message on the old cardboard card that came with this mask. LIGHTS UP AT NIGHT LIKE ROAD SIGNS. CAN BE SEEN BY AUTO DRIVERS OVER TWO BLOCKS AWAY.
I can't imagine how this mask must glow that brightly! Visible from 2 blocks!
Thanks Marina for the suggestion. Makes me want to dress up to greet the trick or treaters tomorrow night!
If you have an idea for a future collection challenge, leave me a comment and finish the sentence "Show me your collection of ____." You never know what I can scare up!
GREAT collection!
How you store some of your collections is beyond me 8-)!!
While digging through MY treasures, I had an idea...
"Show me your collection of WIG TOTES." (I realized that I had three of them... you know, those neat old zippered, handled 'suit-case-like' containers - a couple of mine have really fun flowered graphics!)
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Another fabulous collection! I definitely think you need to wear at least one pair of your funky glasses for trick or treating. Maybe one of your stylish swim caps too! Hugs.

I have an assortment of old costumes and masks too. But, my very favorite costume box with the great graphics is hot pink. Why would they make a Halloween Costume box HOT PINK? I've never been able to work it into my decorations, so it just sits in the garage.
*I think I can see that last mask from here! :)

Wow...I love the hardened clown faces...Never have run across one of these either. Both my boys mastered rubiks cube as well...I loved passing on a childhood toy. Smiles..Renee

Ha! Ben's Rubik's Cube costume is so clever in contrast to the 'store-bought' version (growing up we either wore 'store-bought' or 'handmade' which was called 'homemade' back then). :-) How funny that you came across an official Rubiks Cube costume! Looks like the crafting gene runs in your family.

Such a fun collection! Those masks were always so uncomfortable to wear, weren't they? I remember being so relieved when my Mom made me a witch costume and I didn't have to wear one. I loved that costume so much that I wore it three years in a row, and actually still have it!

You mean you weren't going to dress up? I figured you of all people would be something fun with all that creativity in you! Love that you found the Rubik's Cube costume since Ben loved it so much. Those masks bring back memories of sweating and not being able to see or breathe real well when you walked around with them :-D Sure wish I still had all mine. I found my first vintage Collegeville Devil costume in it's original box Sun. The mask and box are in great condition but when I opened up the costume, it was stained! Wish there was a way to clean those flame retardent costumes. At least I can just display it in it's box.
Well, thanks for sharing and if you do dress up....Maybe we'll see a pic of it?

Those were great! :) I loved the little mouse (or possibley bear?) mask in the beginning. Thanks for showing off your collection!

Oh, those rubber masks! Mom always cut the eye holes "just a little bit bigger". And you could hear yourself breathing inside them. They'd get a little steamed up inside. I don't remember what any of them looked like!
Ben looks adorable in his rubic's cube outfit. I think my Ben was Spiderman at about that age. We still have that costume that I spent hours on.

Ben's Rubiks Cube costume is great. I'm guessing he had some help from Magpie Ethel!
I really think you need to test out that last mask. I think if I saw that glowing at me from two blocks away I would trun my car right around and go the other way!

THe homemade box costume were very popular here! One year a kid was a dice, another year my Ben was a computer 'The BJ 5', one of my personal favorites was a popcorn box with red and white stripes and popped corn sprinkled on the top of the box around the hole cut for the neck. I loved home made costumes and the kids had lots more attention than buying something. Those clown masks are pretty spooky!

I remember wearing Woody Woodpecker one year. It was probably the last year I did trick or treating because I don't remember the others.
