I am thrilled to FINALLY start a bathroom remodel. This is the main floor bathroom that my kids have used for the 16 years we have lived in this house. It was not in great shape when we moved in and I did about every cosmetic band-aid I could think of to make it work. The time has come to say goodbye...those birds will have a new spot to perch.
These are the BEFORE photos. The project will take awhile. We are having a contractor do it. I will be posting on it periodically as it progresses. (looking in from the door, double sinks on left, shower on right)
Blech. I hate this old bathtub/shower. I can't get it clean anymore and the oddball shelf at the back of the tub will disappear. It is also a really shallow tub so when you take a bath the water level is never very deep.
The light-switch is BEHIND the door. Visitors always ask where the switch is.
The built in cabinet is going away. I will have a new cabinet built and I am going to go with a pedestal sink. The new cabinet will run the length of the wall under the window. Originally this bathroom had a similar cabinet to what I am putting in.
This is looking into the mirror above the sink, but shows the super strange tiny wall by the top of the arch. It will disappear and the arch will be evened out.
Toilet. Beige. It is impossible to find a toilet lid that matches the rest of the toilet. The cabinet beside it is a floor to ceiling linen closet. I can't lose that much storage so I am having a similar piece built in the same spot. It will be shallower tho so the toilet is no longer in a dark little corner.
This is another view of that linen cabinet. It is attached to the cabinet where the two double sinks are. Where the tile and the countertop meet is wood trim that I painted cream years ago. It is looking shabby. I will be glad to see it go.
I am keeping this original mirror and light fixture. I like that it is framed in with the window trim.
I will report in as we progress. I have a whole stash of vintage goodies that will be put to use in the new bathroom. I can't wait to get this project started!
Can't wait to see your "New and improved" bath! I'm sure it'll be charming once you get at it and incorporate your stash of goodies in there. Our kids bath has a tub/shower in it too and I loathe that. I got lost and started looking at all your birds in there :-)
Thanks for sharing!
Have a great day.

How exciting!! My only bathroom is so tiny, it's ridiculous!! I had to chuckle at your hidden light switch. My dining room light switch is in the kitchen! When we moved in, I had to hunt for it. Makes you wonder what builders were thinking-- or not thinking! Good luck!

I can't wait to see what you do! I don't think I've ever seen more cabinets in a bathroom! What a great project - I am looking forward to seeing all your vintage touches that will be awesome, I know.

Can't wait to follow your bathroom project! It's amazing how exciting and stressful construction can be. I seriously love your kitschy bathroom decor. Take good care of your birds!

Can't wait to see the transformation, and all of the vintage goodies that will be making an appearance! I hope it all happens fast, and without a hitch!

You're decor certainly masks the flaws in the bath, I wouldn't have noticed them if you hadn't pointed them out...mine is similar age and hope to 'update' or gut it someday; however, I want a new kitchen worse, so keep adding band-aids :) Can't wait to see the progress!

That first picture is one of the cutest bathrooms I have ever seen. I wouldn't change it. However, as the photo gallery moves on, one can see why you want a change. I know you will make it wonderful and I, too, am anxious to see the transformation with all your vintage goodies included!!

I've got to say...I think the "bones" of the bathroom are fantastic. In my mind, very vintage-y. I think the counter/cabinet/sink area is so quaint. Love the archway to the shower. What about just replacing tub/shower and toilet? Change out flooring? Painting always does wonders. And you can always change out sinks and countertops. Wallpaper? Might save you some money. I just finished two bathroom remodels in my 1947 home...$60k!!

I know it's going to look fabulous and be full of inspiration. Can't wait to see!

Between your contractor's skills and your collections, I'm sure it will turn out great! We have the dreaded beige toilet, too, and you're right on the matching issue. I'm not in favor of any bathroom fixture that's not white!

Oh, I can't wait to see it finished!! Have fun! xo Heather

I see a lot of vintage charm in the bathroom..I like how it the counter angles and the curtain underneath & what appears to be a 1920s arch. I'm gearing up to have our 2nd bathroom redone but I still want the vintage '50s look to keep the integrity of my 1954 house.
But, I can understand getting rid of the beige and shallow tub.
