I have been a bit of a home body lately. The kids are back at college. The craziness of my holiday season is over. I feel like I can take a deep breath now. Wandering around my house I am surrounded by things that make me happy. Unusual things found at estate sales or antique shows that when I display make sense in my house. A memory or a story behind so many items.
Vintage jewelery on display with a honeycomb garland. It hangs on my bedroom mirror and makes me smile everyday.
A favorite lampshade with a wonderful doll (found at Alameda Flea Market) that bobs side to side when you give her a nudge.
A giant song sheet yellowed with age. How can you not like a song titled "Tiptoe"?
Wonderful floral wallpaper in Kates room that I dearly love. The wallpaper was ordered from England when we first moved into this house. Kate has had a love/hate affair with it while growing up. Vintage honeycomb daisies and pink twinkle lights adorn a vanity mirror.
Colorful pillows, both vintage and new. Kate's bed is made since she is away at college...that always doens't happen when she is home.
A few more swans have joined my flock. The latest being estate sale found glass birds clips. I had to add new tails.
This old watercolor hangs in my living room. It was drawn by my grandfather's college professor. Their is a matching one that hangs nearby.
It is not a particularly amazing scene, but I love the fact it is backed with an old Wheaties box.
A hodge podege scene of birds in cloches, old pincushions, advertising rolls and crepe paper flowers. Finds from so many different places and people. The cabinet was gifted from a friend.
I always have fresh flowers on my kitchen windowsill. The hyacinth needs to grow a bit more and then I will have that amazing scent. The glass vase marked FLOWERS was found at an antique store nearby a few years ago. I debated about buying it, but it is a favorite purchase now.
I love these smiling flowers on a vintage apron. It hangs permanently on a knob in my kitchen.
A new docking station for my phone. My kids got it on Etsy and it is made from a vintage book. It fits right in with my style. I still love the tufted couch I paired with our dining room table.
My vintage store display stork is decked out for Valentine's day. Again, a find at a local antique store. A friend talked me into buying it and I am sure glad she did.
Vintage fabric in the kitchen make a colorful tie back on my curtains. Fabric was found at a local retirement home sale.
Estate sale found turquoise metal frame that was perfect to showcase a tiny photo of Kate when she was little (the photo is surrounded by a tarnished glitter Christmas reflector). The matting is original and the bottom oval holds a scrap of vintage wallpaper and a four leaf clover that Kate found years ago.
The THINK sign was estate sale found and works well with the giant light bulb lamp in Ben's room.
This framed piece was made by my Aunt. It is a teeny tiny cross stitch pattern that my aunt did of her mother (that would be Ethel, my grandmother).
Fun to wander room to room. Estate sale finds, family hand-me-downs and treasures found at shows. Funny I can remember so many tidbits about so many vintage things, but forget other things so easily! Loving my house full of stories and one of a kind finds. A good place.
happy day.
I did a post last year with a few more snippets of things I love in my house. You can see it here.
