I hit the second day of a digger sale today. I love digger sales. You never know what unexpected item will show up in the boxes and boxes of junk to dig through. I don't know why I didn't hit this sale yesterday. I do know it would have been really crowded and this morning for a bit I had the digging to myself. Nothing was priced so you gathered up your finds and they gave you a price at the register.
I didn't find anything earth shattering, but for 73 minutes (the time I spent at the sale) I was happy as a clam digging for vintage.
A holiday advertisement, a unopened back of Santa plates and a holiday coloring book.
I love the vintage green of the metal items on the left. At first I thought they were bike fenders or oversize cabinet pulls. When I got home Tom said he thought they were the armrests from an old pair of outdoor chairs. I think he is right. I also found a 1950 gardening catalog.
There were lots of vintage greeting cards. I think the woman bought them and tucked them away for future use. Most of them are from the 1950s and have never been used.
I am such a sucker for them. Two words...the graphics!
I got a little bit of this and that in some of the boxes.
A jar in a great shape and a tiny pin up girl mirror.
One of my favorite finds was a child's shoe box. There is no lid, but it will live with my shoe box collection. The company that manufactured the shoes is the O'Kay Shoe Company. LOVE that name. I also found some darling cat stationary.
The one side of the shoe box features Jack and Jill.
I dug out a cute calendar from 1956 from Mahoney's Meat Market.
The calendar has listed the birthdays of US presidents. I also like the little fish graphic on each Friday to remind you to eat fish.
I ran around to the backyard to peek after digging inside. This old piece of concrete was off to one side of the yard. The frog and mushrooms will now live outside my studio door.
I was in and out in 73 minutes. 73 minutes of mindless vintage browsing. My favorite kind of morning.
Happy day.
WOW! You Lucky Duck :-)
That is a fantastic way to spend the morning....Mindless digging with no one else in your face! Looks like you made a great haul too. Love those vintage cards. I think I have the pack of napkins that go with those Santa plates!
Like the concrete frog and mushrooms too.
Beautiful sunny and warm day down here. Hope it's the same up there!!

I like this and that the best ;-)
Don't you just love uncovering treasures????
Best part is the you have a purpose to what you buy (and a way to store it too!!)

Chris has been dreaming of digger estate sales. Those are the best kind. I can't believe you found all those unused greeting cards. That frog and toadstool is just charming. So many fun finds. Good for you!

What a fun way to spend 73 minutes! I love that bluebird card that says Hurry. I can't wait to see what you do with the green armrests. The "grandma green" would have pulled me right in, too.

Digging your way to happiness!! Such fun little this and that. I know I could go to estate sales every weekend and find cute little whatevers, but now that I'm not selling it would just pile up. I get my kicks through your blog!!

I think it's funny that Aunt Jenny is wanting you to try RECEIPTS rather than RECIPES! Lol

That had me scratching my head too... "receipts"?? What the heck is Spry?
Love the greeting cards, the little reindeer cards and the kitten stationary.
Sounds like a great way to spend 73 minutes to me!

Seventy Three minutes well spent! There must be some sort of a law that says you must have a certain percent of "cuteness" in Portland. You find more sweet graphics at almost every sale you go to than I have ever found - ever! Such sweetness! Kind of makes up for the heebie geebies I have when I think of Portland from watching "Grimm." Have you ever watched it yet?

Love mindless digging, especially when you are by yourself and not having to constantly look over your shoulder to check if someone is waiting to pounce. It has happened to me. Just makes me slow down. HA!!
I would have bought those armchair rests just for the color too. Can't wait to see what you do with them!
Hanna, Maddie, & I were in Portland today and visited Rejuvenation and Grand Marketplace. We ran into Amy at the Salem flea and she told us we had to go there. Wow. AMAZING!

Good for you. I can hardly wait to see what you do with the armrests. I can see the beauty in them but use? I'll have to think about it.
(It just starting raining...boo)
Love the frog & mushroom!

I always love your estate sale posts. I was hoping someone was going to say what Spry was, so I wouldn't have to look it up. LOL, I did and it was a shortening. Were the RECEIPTS still in there?

Reminds me of the digger (hoarder) sale I went to last Friday! I was there for a little over an hour digging for treasures in each room.
