So when you read the title of this challenge did you think I was going Lizzie Borden today? Nope! I have been doing some holiday crafting in the studio and was struck by the variety of party favor hatchets I had collected!
I think most of these party favors were intended to celebrate President's day. When I was a kid we always made a big celebration of it with George Washington and Abe Lincoln. I think the hatchets are in reference to the famous "I can not tell a lie" cherry tree cutting story.
Those large hatchets in the first photo have a hollow handle and are candy containers. They have a great faux wood handle and are marked "Made in Japan" on the bottom. I found a stash of these at an estate sale.
These are both smaller party favor style hatchets. The bottom one is almost a mini version of those in the previous photo. I like the silvery blades.
This hatchet is made of wood and painted.
This one is plastic. (The tiny cherries are from my crafting stash)
Cardboard gold foil hatchet Such a variety! I think I am going to do a little George Washington/hatchets/cherry framed piece. A collection that just appeared in my studio in my crafting stash.
If you have an idea for a future collection challenge, leave me a comment and finish the sentence "Show me your collection of ____." Something different every week.
p.s. Remember patriotic holiday is marching towards Etsy tonight at 5:30 (pacific time)
I can easily say that now I've seen it all. Hatchets? Definitely one of your quirkier collections!
Have a great day!

Had to wipe my eyes again when I first looked at your blog. I thought those were full sized hatchets at first LOL! Love those honeycomb cherries! That's funny how you said that the collection just appeared in your studio. I think of all the different possibilities that you can come up with in there!
Cute collection ;)

I think a framed Washington piece would be wonderful and so unique.

I like the way they look arranged together in the last photo. That will make a great display piece, especially with those honeycomb cherries.

I doubt anyone would have come up with "show me your collection of hatchets"! The candy holders are cute (for a hatchet). I love the honeycomb cherries...have you done a collection on cherries?? If not, please show me.

Very cool nonetheless!

Aren't you clever! I think we all took a double-look at the title before opening it up. I vote for a cherry collection post too!
