I went to the Coburg Antique show last weekend and bought a celluloid songbird. I don't know my varieties of birds..cockatoo?
This sweetie will live in my house with my collection of bird items.
First I have a cage of course. I have a stand for it as well.
Every birdcage needs a nice little perch with bells.
Birds love to play with toys. This tiny bird is a nodder and bobs up and down when nudged.
This little perch is a favorite. I love the little birdhouse style clock.
The weight of a bird on the perch makes the little red door open and a tiny bird appears.
A vintage celluloid bird keeps a bird company.
When you have birds you need a pamphlet to help with the care. This darling girl looks like her pet parakeet is adored.
Bird Gravel
Song Food...how cute is that?
I saw this last weekend at the Coburg show where I bought the celluloid bird. I passed on it, but I was tempted.
This spun cotton fellow will live with my newly acquired bird.
This chenille fellow is also part of my caged bird flock.
These records were a fun find years ago.
I have never listened to the records (alas, no record player) but the description on the record explains it all....Peter Parker (a real bird) is the star of the record and according to the sleeve of the album "Peter said his first words at the age of four months, after 2 1/2 months of training. Now at five years of age, he boasts a vocabulary of 400 words!"
Peter Parker says phrases such as "I'll play bridge, If I'm dummy" or "It's absolutely Preposterous!" and "Peter is a precious little birdie - hello Boy, whadya say boy?". According to the record you should play it several times a day when the room is quiet. Just couldn't pass up these records at an estate sale.
This collection lives upstairs on my landing.
If you have an idea for a future collection challenge, leave me a comment and finish the sentence "Show me your collection of ____". You never know what "tweet" thing I will share each week.
P.S. One of the perks of doing a challenge like this is doing a little housecleaning at the same time. Evidently bird cage cleaning is not a high priority in my house.
What a sweet collection and I always get excited when I can see another corner of your house. Your newest pink bird is beautiful. Love that blue house perch too. Such sweet little details.
PS. Thanks for keeping it real. I'm smiling at the "dust me". I definitely had a bit of housekeeping to do after moving my plantation dollhouse off the hutch to make room for Halloween blowmold. Yikes.

You just have the greatest collections! I just love that birdcage and the vintage bird things! I've seen some nice birdcages but they're to spendy or yucky. The one you have is really nice looking esp with the stand. Like the new bird addition too! I haven't seen any like that one. I seem to be coming across the "dust" problem in our house too so I've been cleaning and dusting as well before getting to my Halloween stuff.
Have a great day and thanks for the smiles this morning :-)

I especially love the orange tin of "song food." What great color and graphics!

Dust is the collectors friend. It is a protective covering for priceless treasures :P

I found a pink birdcage at a garage sale a while back and am on the lookout for a stand. I saw one at the garage sale that had all the Holt Howard but it included the cage and was way over my budget. Oh well, I must be patient!
This is such a tweet, I mean sweet, post :-)

Be still my heart. The birds and their accessories are just too cute. Each bird is adorable. And the perch with the clock...wow.
What if you had a parakeet that said all those things on the record. It would drive me crazy!!
How could you pass up that jar at Coburg??

All I can think is that some poor bird must have had the poop scared out of him every time he sat on that perch and that red door popped open. :-)

Cute collection with great display! I was reading this post when my eye got distracted by some vintage halloween in your etsy shop that I noticed on your sidedbar and I had to stop and buy something real quick. LOL But back to the birdies, I was just thinking about making a display with some of my craft birdies and some branches out of the yard. Guess we all have "bird brain" :)

What a charming little collection! Those parakeet booklets look so familiar, I'm sure I had them once when I was young!
