Detective Magpie Breaks the Hankie Case

It has been quite awhile since I had any detective work to do.  On my last collection challenge which featured vintage hankies there was one hankie I could not read the message on.  I asked blogland for their suggestions.

Katy (Katyo) left me a comment and directed me to a Pinterest photo. From there it linked back to a blog, "The Hanky Dress Lady".  She had a post on Vintage Valentine Puzzle Hankies.  You should hit that link and visit her post..she has a fun collection of a type of hankie THAT I NEVER KNEW ABOUT.  Paula also left a comment on my previous challenge about folding the hankie in a certain manner, so she was familiar with these tricky hankies as well.  

Unfolded.

After I folded it just so (I think I have it right). My Valentine!  The design in the center is folded to make up a heart.  

Isn't that the coolest hankie?  I need to hunt down more now!  Thank you Katy and Paula for your help on this case.  The mystery is solved.  Case closed.

Collection Challenge #242 - Vintage Valentine Hankies

People like to challenge me with vintage hankies. I did a post on them with challenge #35. I often rummage through the old hankies at estate sales.  I love the variety of designs and really love those that are kid oriented.  When pulling out my Valentine decorations, I realize I have a nice little collection of Valentine themed ones. Time to share. I've added a few of my favorite Valentines to this post as well.

 

I like the tidy rows of hearts as a border on this hankie.




The heart spins about on this one and the windows reveal the message " over you my dear".

For the life of me I can't decipher the message on this hankie.  I see Hello Valentine, but beyond that I can't figure it out.  Blogland?

This is the only hankie that is not a square.

The couple is on a cardboard handle and lean into kiss one another. " Elves and fairies will dance with glee, If you my Valentine will be." This card is older.

A fun little collection.  I wish I could figure out a great way to display hankies (beyond framing, pillows or a quilt).  They are little works of art for sure.  If you have an idea for a future collection challenge, leave me a comment and finish the sentence "Show me your collection of ___".

My Month of January on Instagram

31 days come and gone in January.  I had my birthday.  I hit a flea market with Amy. I had a day of junking with with Amy and met a woman who has a crazy paint by number collection (post coming).  I was busy in my studio creating Valentine goodies for Etsy.  I hit a couple of estate sales but still wishing the season would start up soon. I bought a new cabinet for my studio. It was a good month.
