My kids are both away at college and sometimes I wonder why I decorate still. I like it, but it is a ton of work. Today as I was out in my driveway a girl in her teens walked by. She asked if I lived in this house. I said that I did. She told me that my window decorations were a huge part of her childhood as she walked by my house all the time. She said she looked forward to each holiday as I changed up the display. That in a nutshell is why I do what I do. She made my day.
So on to Halloween! I switched out a few decorations this year and of course to my collection of things.
My front window and porch this year were skeleton themed. (I can't bear to cut down the dahlias until first frost)
View from the inside. I have two rows of fishing line from one side of the room to the other. The fishing line has been up for years, and is super handy for hanging.
My front porch got the old tattered umbrellas once again. I added orange lights and skeletons.
I usually don't decorate the kitchen, but this year I decided to do Witchville. I like having similar things displayed together.
Lots and lots of witches...in every shape and form.
The vintage plastic witch head candy containers still have that powdery sugary candy inside.
The last of my dahlias from my yard decorate my kitchen window sill with some pumpkin friends.
In the family room I have pumpkin land. Tons and tons of pumpkins.
Years ago I found the Halloween Banner at a local estate sale. It was tattered and needed to be pieced back together. The letters were scattered in various boxes. I hunted them all down and put it back together. I absolutely love it.
This crepe paper fellow was a new find for me this year.
I went to an estate sale this past year where the person had collected candy containers of all shapes and sizes. These plastic pumpkin men were great to add to my pumpkin collection.
My china hutch also holds my collection of trick or treat bags and vintage Halloween candles.
I have a love affair with tiny things. These shelves all hold little Halloween tidbits...plastic figures, party favors, noisemakers etc.
I stuck all my blow molds in front of this window. I don't plug them in, but during the day the daylight makes them glow.
I did a devil display in my fireplace nook. Last year I had owls here.
Every year I hang an old mirror over this desk. It is the perfect backdrop for hanging from. Skeleton land.
I found some really old bottles of bug killer this year with fun graphics. I like the sinister look of them.
I found a second pair of false teeth the other day at an estate sale. They are perfect with my Halloween stuff.
A display of old Halloween make up and disguises.
Last but not least, the land of black cats and vintage candy boxes.
Candy boxes found almost entirely at estate sales. Sometimes when I buy an item it is stored in an old candy box...a couple of my best boxes have been purchases like that.
Spooky fun around my house. Long post, but no shortage of Halloween here.
One week and I will have trick or treaters at my door! I'm ready for that doorbell to ring!
